A Chorus of ‘I Do’s’ at Mass Wedding — Larnaka Tourism Board
It is no secret that Larnaka is a romantic setting for a wedding under the sun, and 85 couples proved that its appeal is the same for love at any age during a mass wedding where the youngest couple were 18, and the oldest groom was 81!
The happy couples were all from Israel and Russia and arrived for their big day by ship to Larnaka Port on June 21, 2013, along with all their guests. Local girls in traditional costumes welcomed the group and gave the brides their bouquets. They then sprinkled the group’s hands with rosewater – a Cypriot wedding tradition that symbolises the couple’s fresh start.
At the Larnaka Medieval Castle Square – a magical setting for the declaration of love – Larnaka’s Deputy Mayor, Mr Petros Christodoulou, announced the couples husband and wife and the brides collectively threw their bouquets in the air!
After the couples were officially wed they were given their marriage certificates, traditional wedding sweets and commemorative gifts, followed by champagne and traditional ‘loukoumades’ sweets for the whole group.
This is the third consecutive year that a mass wedding has been held, organised by the Larnaka Municipality and the Larnaka Tourism Board in cooperation with the Israeli tour operator Natan Uretsky, and supported by the CTO, Digiworld, WebtoDesigns, Karotseris-Aradippos Dance School and Pyrillos bakeries.
